The answer is: As a sound source moves away from a stationary object, the sound waves are compressed, increasing the pitch.

Why?
Do I just have the question wrong I am so confused I thought that as a sound source moved away, the sound waves don't compress decreasing the pitch?

the answer is wrong. u r right. think about an ambulance passing by u. the pitch is highest when it is right beside u.
