C is the correct answer, because A and B don't have the prepositional phrase in the right place, it is misplaced, so in A it actually refers to 'paint', when it should refer to the look on her face, and in B the prepositional phrase also incorrectly refers to 'time' in this case. Only the last option has the prepositional phrase in the right spot.
