Around 800 AD, trade was considerably influenced by the heat and arid conditions of the Sahara Desert, this is why Trans-Saharan trade routes had to adapt to these conditions and, for example, thanks to strategies like the use of the camels, powerful empires like the Songhai empire rose and expanded.
