10*9=90
3u->90
1u->30
4u->120 pounds

Total Potatoes sold by farmer = 30 lb

Let the total potatoes be = 1

  • Quarter ie 1/4th sold to first person ;

Remaining left, after 1st sale = 1 - 1/4 = ( 4 - 1 ) / 4 = 3 / 4

  • 4/9 of the left sold (second sale, to 2nd buyer)  = 4 / 9 x 3 / 4 = 1 / 3 rd

Remaining after 2nd sale = 3 / 4 - 1 / 3  =   ( 9 - 4 ) / 12 = 5 / 12th

  • 4/5 of left sold ( third sale, to 3rd buyer) = 4 / 5  x 5 / 12 = 1 / 3 rd

The last, third sale = 10 units

So, equating them : 1 / 3 = 10 units

Total potatoes = 10 x 3 = 30 units
