What do you need to do? write a summary. It is about 2 women, and their hardships, im guessing they live in a time of poverty and a time where wealth doesn't come often. They need to make money to get by, but the thought of selling this tree is like taking away what they were fighting for. They have strength because this tree is helping them push through these tough times. With the thought of the father, they tie a link between the tree and him.
The poem "The Black Walnut Tree" is a pastoral because it portrays a country life. It says "the fruits harder to gather away." This shows that they take the fruits of the tree to eat, and now it is giving them to many fruits that they can not gather them all. It also talks about their father who is "filling the blue fields of fresh and generous Ohio with leaves and vines and orchards." The poem describes a lot of scenery, so it implies that it is a pastoral.
Hope that helped :)
