If rybirens (which each have 9 flowers) and figilbuttons (which each have 7 flowers). he says to his friend, i count 87 plants and 713 flowers. how many rybirens and how many figilbuttons are in the garden?

You can subtract 9 from the 713 value and trace until you get a multiple of 7 or vice versa.

or

14 rybirens and 73 figilbuttons
