Influenza and the common cold are infections of the respiratory system. They are both contagious viral infections of the respiratory tract. A cold is a milder respiratory illness than the influenza. Influenza symptoms are usually more severe than cold symptoms and come on quickly. Symptoms of influenza include sore throat, fever, headache, muscle aches and soreness, congestion, and cough.
