The enzyme called Pheide a Oxygenase (PAO) catalyses the degradation of chlorophyll. 1. Mendel’s I gene (yellow peas) codes for this enzyme. If this gene is mutated, what will happen to the pea colour?2. What was discovered when looking at the PAO levels between heterozygous and homozygous plants?

2. If the pea is heterozygous, it produces only half of the enzyme PAO. A homozygous pea can break down all the chlorophyll because it contains the entire enzyme PAO. A heterozygous pea can also break down all the chlorophyll making yellow dominant to green color.
