What led to the Cold War?

The Cold War's beginning may be attributed to a number of factors, including tensions between the two countries at the close of World War II, ideological rivalry between the US and the USSR, the development of nuclear weapons, and American fears of communism.

More specifically, other factors that led to the cold war are:

  • Ideology differences.
  • The Berlin Crisis
  • The USSR's westward expansion into Eastern Europe
  • Truman and Stalin's disagreements
  • The post-World War II economic reconstruction, support for proxy wars
  • The US atomic bomb, and
  • The USSR's differences with the US which was suggestive of two opposing political systems that the US and the USSR represented.
