Joanne buys a rectangle at rug rug with an area of 35/4 square meters. The length of the rug is 7/2 meters. What is the width, in meters, of the rug?

A = L * W
35/4 = 7/2W
35/4 * 2/7  = W
70/28 reduces to 5/2 or 2 1/2

check...
35/4 = 7/2(5/2)
35/4 = 35/4 ..correct

so the width is 5/2 or 2 1/2 or 2.5 meters

35/4 × 2/7
cross cancel the 35 with the 7 and the 4 with the 2:
5/2 ×1/1
5/2 meters otherwise written as 2 1/2
