In all of these phylogenetic trees, the gain or loss of a trait is represented by a red trait mark. These marks are a way of showing change---that is, evolution. Which tree does the best job of showing which branches are evolving?

Answer:

Option D

Explanation:

Please see the images for this question attached here.

Solution

The evolving branch is the one which keeps on growing and diversifying. In the first image attached herewith, the branches with send species as trout and mouse are not evolving. Hence both options A and B in the first image are incorrect.

In the second image, all the branches are shown as evolving which is also not true and hence option C is correct.

However, the last image in which only the upward branches are marked red is the correct images. All the upwards branches are evolving all together with any diversification at the end species.

Hence, option D is correct
