well first you need to get the same bottom number so the bottom number is 20 and the top will be first fraction top is 8 other fraction is 10 so your answer is 18/20

to add fractions, you have to have a common denominator.....

that being said....a common denominator of [tex] \frac{2}{5} [/tex] and [tex] \frac{2}{4} [/tex] is 20...

So change the fractions...

[tex] \frac{2}{5} * \frac{4}{4} = \frac{8}{20} [/tex]
and
[tex] \frac{2}{4} * \frac{5}{5} = \frac{10}{20} [/tex]

Now, you can add..

[tex] \frac{8}{20}+ \frac{10}{20} = \frac{18}{20} [/tex]   ([tex] \frac{9}{10} [/tex] simplified)
