Respuesta :
Which change will correct this model of the electron transport chain? Switch H2O and O2.
NADH and FADH2 provide the electrons that go to the electron chain and reach oxygen molecules and protons to form water molecules. Meanwhile, ATP molecules are synthesized. You need to switch H₂O and O₂.
-----------------------------------------------------
Proposed Model
NADH, FADH2, and H₂O enter the Electron transport chain. O₂ and 32 ATP exit the Electron transport chain.
The change to correct the model is to Switch H₂O and O₂.
ELECTRON TRANSPORTER CHAIN
- The electron transporter chain is located in the internal mitochondrial membrane.
- It constitutes a series of enzymatic reactions to release and save energy for the organism’s correct functioning.
- Along the chain, there are four proteinic complexes in the membrane, I, II, III, and IV.
- Complexes contain the electrons transporters and the enzymes necessary to catalyze the electrons' transference from one complex to the other.
- Different redox reactions occur to pass electrons along the chain.
- Released energy creates a proton concentration gradient used to synthesize ATP.
STEPS IN THE ELETRON TRANSPORTER CHAIN
1) NADH provides electrons to the first complex, Complex I.
Complex I pomp four protons to the intermembrane space.
2) From complex I, electrons go to the coenzyme Q that carries them to
complex II.
3) Complex II receives electrons from CoQ and also receives electrons
from FADH2.
4) Electrons are sent from complex II to ubiquinone Q.
5) Ubiquinone Q carries these electrons to complex III.
6) Complex III receives electrons from ubiquinone Q and pomps protons
to the intermembrane space.
Electrons are transferred to Cytochrome c.
7) Electrons travel from cytochrome c to complex IV.
8) Complex IV is the last complex that pomps protons to the
intermembrane space.
9) Electrons are sent to O₂ molecules, which also receive protons in the
matrix to create water molecules.
Four electrons are needed to produce two water molecules from one O₂
molecule.
The proton gradient is used to produce ATP molecules.
According to this framework, what is wrong with the proposed model is that NADH and FADH2 provide electrons to produce water molecules. So electrons enter the chain, and water molecules exit.
