Reported speech or indirect speech is used to relate to what a person has said without using the exact words. There needs to be a listener or audience and an emisor, the person who actually says a statement. We can use the expression it was said that to report the sentence you are asking. Past simple sentences have to be changed to past perfect. Accordingly, the reported statement can passively be reported as: It was said that Ann and Jack had had a chat on Skype, or it is possible to say "He / She said that Ann and Jack had had a chat on Skype."
