Many believe the flapper generation died out long ago, but if we
take a deeper look into society this may not be entirely true. While they may
not have a short bob cut with finger waves or dark lipstick, many women still
fight for social equality among the genders. Throughout the years many women have embraced their freedom to, partying, working rights, and personal
opinions. In order to be of flapper mind one does not have to make a big scene,
it can be as simple as not letting anyone put you down based solely on gender The
entire purpose of an original flapper was to make it known that females will
not stand down to any challenge and can handle the same load as a man. A
specific example of a modern day flapper in my opinion would be Katy Perry. She started her singing career very early and has always promoted the girl power image. Her songs have a strong emphasis on girls being able to hold their own, not needing a man to make them feel secure. One song in particular “Roar,”
released in 2013, is a tribute to all girls who stood up against society’s
conventional views on how a woman should act.
