The lamp fell over and landed on the sleeping cat.
subject + predicate (with two verbs)
The example is a simple sentence with compound verbs.
- A simple sentence is formed by a subject and a predicate.
- A simple sentence is an independent clause since it can stand on its own (it is not subordinated to a main clause as this happens with complex sentences).
- Simple sentences contain one main idea (when the sentence contains two or more main ideas, they are compound sentences).
