When Pope Urban called the first Crusades he wanted all Christians in Europe to go to war against Muslims so they could reclaim the Holy Land.
The first Crusade is noteworthy because it was a major turning point in the history of Europe and since the decline of the Roman Empire it was the first major was of conquest that was launched from western Europe.
